  • PM Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate India’s first-ever water metro that connects 10 islands surrounding Kochi using battery-operated electric hybrid boats.
  • Union Health Ministry and the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs have made a decision to establish 100 food streets throughout the country.
  • The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced plans to develop an integrated network of around 10,000 kilometers of optic fiber cables (OFC) infrastructure across India by the fiscal year 2025.
  • The Union Cabinet approved the National Quantum Mission, aimed at propelling India into a leading position in the quantum technology sector and promoting economic growth through its development.
  • Science and Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh launched the YUVA PORTAL in New Delhi, which aims to connect and identify potential young Start-Ups.
  • Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that the Union government plans to introduce ‘Vande Metro’ by December 2023.
  • A 3D-printed post office is being built in Bengaluru, India, which will be the first of its kind in the country.
  • The Indian government has launched a rescue operation in Sudan to evacuate its stranded citizens. The operation, named Operation Kaveri.
  • The Election Commission has granted national party status to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The party’s recognition as a national party is based on its electoral performance in four states- Delhi, Goa, Punjab, and Gujarat.

  • The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sing Sukhu recently announced the launch of the Sukh-Ashraya Yojana, a scheme that aims to provide better life and education opportunities to orphans and destitute children in the state.
  • The Gaj Utsav-2023 was inaugurated at the Kaziranga National Park by the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu.
  • Amit Shah has conferred the ‘Maharashtra Bhushan’ Award to Dattatreya Narayan Dharmadhikari, also known as Appasaheb Dharmadhikari.
  • The Cabinet has given its approval for the Green Energy Corridor (GEC) project, which will be implemented by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), to secure a loan from the German development bank, KfW. The objective of this project is to facilitate grid integration and power evacuation of Renewable Energy power.
  • Odisha Day, also known as Utkala Dibasa, is a significant day for the Indian state of Odisha. Celebrated on 1 April every year, the day commemorates the formation of the state as a separate entity out of Bihar and Orissa Province.
  • The world-famous Basohli Painting from the Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir has obtained the Geographical Indication (GI) Tag.

  • Pakistan becomes the largest recipient of ADB funded programmes in 2022.
  • IIT Madras is set to establish the first Indian Institute of Technology in Africa in Tanzania, with classes scheduled to begin in October.
  • To combat the falling value of the Zimbabwean currency, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has announced plans to introduce a gold-backed digital currency.
  • Mongolia will have its first oil refinery up and running by 2025 which will be made by India.
  • Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to open first overseas office in Abu Dhabi.
  • Syria has now become the world’s largest narco-state, with the majority of its foreign currency earnings coming from the production and export of Captagon, a highly addictive amphetamine commonly referred to as “poor man’s coke”.
  • Nepal has become a founding member of the International Big Cats Alliance. During the launch of the alliance under India’s initiative, Minister for Energy Shakti Bahadur Basnet handed over the letter.
  • Dr. Jaishankar inaugurated the Buzi Bridge virtually, which is a part of the 132 km Tica-Buzi-Nova-Sofala Road project. The bridge has been constructed by India and is a symbol of the solidarity and friendship between India and Mozambique.
  • The Philippines and the United States have launched their largest-ever joint military exercises, called Balikatan, involving nearly 18,000 troops to counter China’s growing assertiveness in the region.
  • Ghana becomes the first country to approve the Oxford malaria vaccine for children.
  • China records the world’s first human death from H3N8 bird flu.
  • Israel successfully launched a new spy satellite, named Ofek-13, into orbit.
  • Finland has become the 31st member of the NATO alliance.

  • Belgium firm (Vito) is set to launch biodiesel project in Ayodhya soon.
  • Despite ongoing concerns over the war in Ukraine, high inflation, and financial uncertainty, the World Trade Organization has raised its projection for global trade growth in 2023 from 1% to 1.7%.
  • RBI is set to introduce a new secured web-based portal called “PRAVAAH” (Platform for Regulatory Application, Validation And AutHorisation) aimed at simplifying and streamlining the application processes.
  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced that Neeraj Nigam has been appointed as the new executive director (ED).

  • New Zealand’s Kim Cotton becomes the first female umpire to officiate a men’s T20I match.
  • FIFA has selected Argentina to host the under-20 soccer World Cup after revoking the hosting rights from Indonesia.
  • Harmanpreet Kaur & Suryakumar Yadav named Wisden T20I player of 2022.
  • Aman Sehrawat won India’s 1st gold medal, under the men’s 57kg freestyle category, at the Asian Wrestling Championships 2023.
  • Vedanta’s Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rajasthan Cricket Association to build the world’s third-largest cricket stadium in Chonp village, Jaipur. The stadium will be named the Anil Agarwal International Cricket Stadium, Jaipur.

  • The government announced the appointment of Siddhartha Mohanty as the Chairperson of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) until June 29, 2024.
  • Anant Maheshwari, the President of Microsoft India, has been appointed as the Chairperson of Nasscom for the period 2023-24.
  • Shantanu Roy is the new CMD of BEML Limited.
  • Arun Sinha is the new Chairman of the National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO).

  • PM Narendra Modi awarded the Excellence in Public Administration-2022 award to the PM Gati Shakti national master plan in the ‘Innovation’ category.
  • Asha Bhosle will be honored with the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award, which was established by the Mangeshkar family and trust in memory of Lata Mangeshkar.
  • Sonam Wangchuk has been honored with the prestigious Santokbaa Humanitarian Award.
  • Former Chancellor Angela Merkel received Germany’s highest Order of Merit. The Grand Cross award was handed to her by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
  • Raj Subramaniam honoured with Pravasi Bharatiya Samman.
  • The 2023 International Prize in Statistics, which is regarded as the equivalent of the Nobel Prize in Statistics, has been awarded to Calyampudi Radhakrishna Rao (C. R. Rao), an Indian-American statistician.
  • Nandini Gupta from Rajasthan has been crowned Femina Miss India World 2023.
