National: Current Affairs of September 2023

  • India has reached a significant milestone in the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) Phase II, with 75% of its villages attaining the ODF Plus status.
  • Recently, on September 23, ‘The International Lawyers Conference 2023’ was held in New Delhi.
  • The fourth edition of ‘Nadi Utsav’ is set to take place from September 22nd to September 24th, 2023, on the picturesque banks of the Yamuna River in Delhi.
  • Union Minister for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan, unveiled a new online life skills learning module called ‘CRIIIO 4 GOOD.’ The program aims to promote gender equality among girls and boys. It was launched in collaboration with the International Cricket Council (ICC), UNICEF, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
  • A recent report released by the central government highlights a significant increase in elephant corridors across 15 elephant range states in India. The number of elephant corridors has risen from 88 in 2010 to 150, a 40% increase.

  • Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state, has achieved a remarkable feat by attaining 100% Open Defecation Free (ODF) Plus status across its 95,767 villages.
  • Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha unveiled the E-Cabinet System in Agartala, marking a significant step towards the digital transformation of government operations and services.   • YES Bank, announced a significant development in the digital currency space by launching UPI interoperability on the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) app.
  • Karnam Sekar, Chairman of the National Asset Reconstruction Company of India (NARCL) tendered his resignation due to disagreements concerning the institution’s structure and operations. This resignation follows a proposal for merging NARCL with India Debt Resolution Company Ltd (IDRCL).
  • The RBI has recently unveiled notable updates to its guidelines pertaining to wilful defaulters and large defaulters, aimed at identifying such defaulters and overseeing their status. The draft norms also address the possibility of removing a defaulter’s name from the list. If an account listed as a wilful defaulter undergoes resolution through mechanisms like the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code or RBI’s guidelines, resulting in a change in management and control, the defaulter’s name should be removed from the list.
    • According to the RBI, a wilful defaulter is an individual or entity that has defaulted on outstanding dues of Rs 25 lakh or more without any reasonable constraint to do so.
    • Large defaulters are entities with outstanding dues of Rs 1 crore or more, with provisions to include unapplied interest in the calculation.
