National Current Affairs

  • The Union Ministry of Railways has launched a new scheme called Amrit Bharat Station Scheme to modernize railway stations across India.
  • The Central Government has set up a panel to recommend structural and other reforms required for the effective implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). The panel will be headed by Amarjeet Sinha – the former Rural Development Secretary and advisor in the PMO.
  • The election Commission of India (ECI) has developed a prototype for the Remote Electronic Voting Machine (RVM) aimed to facilitate voting for domestic migrants across India.
  • India-based Kalyani Group has launched India’s first “green” steel brand called Kalyani Ferresta.
    • When steel is manufactured without using fossil fuels, it is known as green steel. It is manufactured using low-carbon energy sources like hydrogen, electricity, or coal gasification instead of the traditional carbon-intensive manufacturing route.
    • Sweden was the first country to manufacture green steel.
  • Union Homme and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah launched the ‘Prahari’ app. The Prahari App can be used by the jawans of the Border Security Force (BSF) to get information about the accommodation facilities, Ayushman-CAPF and leaves.
  • INS Mormugao was commissioned by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on the eve of the Goa Liberation Day 2022. INS Mormugao is the second ship of the Visakhapatnam-class stealth guided missile destroyers of the Indian Navy.
  • Indian PhD student – Rishi Rajpopa – has solved the Panini code. He released a thesis titled “In Panini, We Trust: Discovering the Algorithm for Rule Conflict Resolution in the Astadhyayi”.
  • Meghalaya tops across the country with average monthly income per agricultural household (Rs 29,348) followed by Punjab (Rs 26,701) and Haryana (Rs 22,841).
  • To raise awareness about the importance of millet, the Agriculture Ministry is hosting a Millet food festival in Parliament for the members. The United Nations has passed a resolution declaring the year 2023 as the International Year of Millets (IYM).
  • India plans to commission 20 nuclear power plants by 2031, adding nearly 15,000 MW in power generating capacity.

  • Maharashtra is the first state in India to set up a separate department for Divyang (differently-abled).
  • Tamil Nadu is the first state in India to Issue Soulbound Tokens. Soulbound token is a unique blockchain asset that cannot be bought, sold or moved to another blockchain wallet.
  • Haryana is the first state to introduce the open-loop ticketing system for roadways buses. The open-loop ticketing system aims to help commuters to do away with buying physical tickets for roadways buses.
  • The Nirogi Haryana scheme was launched recently in Haryana recently. The Nirogi Haryana Project was launched to provide comprehensive free health check-ups and required medical treatment to beneficiary families.
  • The state government of Tamil Nadu has launched the Nilgiri Tahr project to conserve the state animal.
  • World’s first Palm-leaf Manuscript Museum has recently opened in Kerala.
  • Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of centrally protected monuments that have been illegally encroached.
  • The bar-headed geese were spotted at Rushikulya in Odisha’s Ganjam. The bar-headed goose (Anser indicus) is considered to be one of the world’s highest-flying birds. Native to Central Asia, this species is capable of flying through the passes of high mountains at an altitude of 12,000 to 14,000 feet.

  • A group of nine rich industrialized nations (G7+ Norway+ Denmark) approved a deal to provide Vietnam with $15.5 billion to help the Southeast Asian nation move faster from coal power to renewable energy, cutting its climate-damaging pollution.
    • The Just Energy Transition Partnership with Vietnam is among a series of agreements that developing and rich nations are negotiating. The first such deal was signed with South Africa last year, and a similar agreement was reached with Indonesia last month.
  • An unprecedented bomb cyclone has hit the US and Canada.
    • Bomb cyclone is an extra-tropical weather phenomenon that develops by a process called bombogenesis.
    • It is a pressure system that develops upon contact between a warm air mass or a low pressure air mass and a cold air mass or a high pressure air mass.
    • A low pressure system is said to be a bomb cyclone if its pressure drops by 24 millibars within 24 hours.

  • The Union Labour Ministry is currently mulling to shift from the “minimum wages” to “living wages” in a bid to bring more people from poverty in the country.
  • The International Monetary Fund (IMF), in its World Economic Outlook, slashed its FY23 growth forecast for India from its July projection of 7.4 percent to 6.8 percent.
  • In its annual ‘World Economic League Table’, the London-based Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) predicted that India will become the third economic superpower by 2037.

  • The Bengaluru-based Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has been chosen as the secretariat for Science 20 (S20) – the science working group of the G20 summit.
  • Project Vaani will be implemented jointly by the Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc), ARTPARK (AI and Robotics Technology Park), and Google to gather speech data from across India for the creation of an AI-based language model that can understand diverse Indian languages and dialects.
  • NASA has launched the newest Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) spacecraft to track nearly all the water on the surface of the Earth.
  • India is planning to launch HPV vaccine for preventing cervical cancer in 2023 for girls aged 9 to 14 years. Cervavac is a quadrivalent vaccine that is capable of preventing cervical cancer through the immunization process.
