National NEWS

Supreme Court has introduced a new system (Fast and Secured Transmission of Electronic Records (FASTER)) by which its crucial decisions, including orders on bail and stay of arrest, can be communicated electronically to prison authorities and investigating agencies through a secure channel.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will announce the nationwide roll-out of Pradhan Mantri Digital Health Mission on September 27. Under this, a unique digital health ID will be provided to the people, which will contain all the health records of the person.

India has climbed two spots and has been ranked 46th by the World Intellectual Property Organization in the Global Innovation Index 2021 rankings.

The Centre has started the process to revise school textbooks by appointing former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman K. Kasturirangan as the head of a 12-member steering committee responsible for developing a new National Curriculum Framework (NCF). Dr. Kasturirangan also chaired the drafting committee for the National Education Policy, 2020 which recommended the development of a new NCF. The steering committee has been given a tenure of three years to complete its task.

India recorded 1.2 lakh cases of “deaths due to negligence relating to road accidents” in 2020, despite the COVID-19 lockdown, according to ‘Crime India’ report for 2020, released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).

Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) will merge their operations to create an entity with over $2 billion in annual revenues. Sony Pictures Entertainment would hold a majority stake in the combined company. It has been decided that current ZEEL Managing Director & CEO Punit Goenka will lead the combined company.

Centre inks Rs 20,000-crore deal with Airbus to buy 56 military transport aircraft. While the first 16 of the 56 aircraft that are to be delivered will be brought in flyaway condition from Spain, the next 40 will be manufactured by Tata Advanced Systems and Airbus in India.

Foreign direct investments (FDI) into the country more than doubled to $20.42 billion during the April-July period of the current fiscal. Total FDI inflow rose to $27.37 billion during the first four months of 2021-22. Karnataka was the top recipient with 45% share of the total FDI equity inflows followed by Maharashtra (23%) and Delhi (12%).

Eden Beach in Chinna Veerampattinam near Puducherry has become the first beach in the Union Territory to get the coveted ‘Blue Flag’ certification from the Denmark-based Foundation for Environment Education (FEE). Kovalam beach in Tamil Nadu is the other beach to get the certification this year, taking the number of Blue Flag beaches in the country to 10.

  • The Blue Flag tag or Blue Flag certification is one of the world’s most recognised voluntary eco-labels. It is awarded to beaches, marinas and sustainable boating tourism operators.
  • The certification is awarded by the Denmark-based non-profit Foundation for Environmental Education or FEE. It is awarded annually to beaches and marinas in FEE member countries.
