Happy 72nd Republic Day to everyone. In this article we will see the important highlights of republic day parade 2021.

  • No chief guest at this year’s parade, after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressed “regret” that he would not be able to visit India.
  • Lieutenant General Vijay Kumar Mishra, leads this year’s Republic Day parade, as the Parade Commander.
  • The tableaux of Ladakh –– the Union Territory that was created in 2019 after bifurcation of Jammu & Kashmir –– is included for the first time.
  • The 122 member contingent from Bangladesh marked the third instance of a military contingent from a friendly foreign nation participating in the parade — the first was France in 2016, and then UAE in 2017.
  • Ninety per cent of the Territorial Army’s contingent comprises people from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, who are coming to the mainland for the first time.
  • The contingent of 61 Cavalry will be led by a horse that has attended the parade for the last 18 years. The horse is 21 years old, a year older than when the animal usually retires.
  • Galwan Hero Col Santosh Babu Posthumously Awarded Mahavir Chakra, 5 Other Martyrs Get Vir Chakra.
  • Param Vir Chakra is awarded for acts of bravery & self-sacrifice in the face of the enemy. While the Ashok Chakra is awarded for similar acts of valour & self-sacrifice. 
  • Winner of the Param Vir Chakra : Subedar Major Yogendra Singh Yadav & Subedar Sanjay Kumar.
  • Winner of the Ashok chakra : Lt Col D Sriram Kumar.
  •  Flt Lt Bhawna Kanth, one of the first three female fighter pilots of the country, is part of the Indian Air Force tableau at the Republic Day parade.
  • Captain Preeti Choudhary leads upgraded Schilka Weapon system. She is the only woman contingent commander from Army at Republic Day parade 2021.  
  • A replica of the Sun Temple at Modhera displayed on the Gujarat tableau The tableau depicts the Sabhamandap, part of the Sun Temple. It’s 52 pillars denote 52 weeks of a Solar year.
  • Tableau of Punjab showcases the glory of 9th Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur. The tableau has the theme ‘400th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur’.
  • Tableau of Uttar Pradesh displaying Ram Mandir.
  • Rafale fighter jets taking part in the flypast for the the first time.
